The paper studies the scattering theory for a Schrödinger equation in an external time-dependent magnetic field in the Coulomb gauge, namely \[ i\partial_tu=-(1/2)\Delta_Au \] in space dimension 3. Here \(\Delta_A\equiv\nabla_A^2\equiv(\nabla-iA)^2\) and the magnetic potential \(A\) satisfies the Coulomb gauge condition \(\nabla\cdot A=0\). The magnetic potential is assumed to be sufficiently smooth and to satisfy a number of decay estimates in time that are satisfied by sufficiently regular solutions of the free wave equation \(\square A=0\), and even in some cases \(A\) is assumed to be actually a solution of that equation. It is proved the existence of wave operators and their asymptotic completeness in spaces of relatively low regularity. The existence results in spaces of higher regularity are discussed also. The latter results are relevant for the Maxwell-Schrödinger system.
