On Euclidean spaces one has the classical Riesz rearrangement inequality \[ \int_{\mathbb R^n}\int_{\mathbb R^n} u(x)\, v(y-x)\, w(y)\, dx dy\leq \int_{\mathbb R^n}\int_{\mathbb R^n} \widetilde{u}(x)\, \widetilde{v}(y-x)\, \widetilde{w}(y)\, dx dy \] for measurable functions \(u, v, w:\mathbb R^n\to \mathbb R_+\). The functions \(\widetilde{u}, \widetilde{v}\) and \(\widetilde{w}\) are the symmetric rearrangements of the functions \(u, v\) and \(w\). Assume that \(G\) is a noncompact semisimple Lie group with finite center. The author defines symmetric rearrangements of functions on \(G\) and conjectures that for all measurable functions \(u, v, w: G\to \mathbb R_+\) \[ \int_G\int_G u(g)\, v(g'g^{-1})\, w(g')\, dg dg'\leq C \int_G\int_G \widetilde{u}(g)\, \widetilde{v}(g'g^{-1})\, \widetilde{w}(g')\, dg dg' \tag{1} \] with a constant \(C\) that depends only on the group \(G\). This inequality cannot be proved for general semisimple Lie groups, and in the paper the author proves some rearrangement inequalities on semisimple Lie groups connected with (1). In particular, he proves a sharp endpoint estimate for the Kunze-Stein phenomenon.
