Let \(E\) be an elliptic curve over \(K={\mathbb Q}({\sqrt 5}).\) The author carefully prepares conditions which ensure that the action of Gal\((\overline{\mathbb Q} /K)\) on the 5-torsion of \(E\) gives rise to an icosahedral Artin representation which can be extended to one of Gal\((\overline{\mathbb Q} /{\mathbb Q}).\)
