The authors describe a class of nonlinear explicit second-order methods for solving periodic initial value problems (IVPs) for scalar second-order ordinary differential equations. The methods are P-stable in the sense of \textit{J. D. Lambert} and \textit{I. A. Watson} [J. Inst. Math. Appl. 18, 189--202 (1976; Zbl 0359.65060)] and of high-order phase lag. Using a special ternary vector operation combining product and quotient, the authors also propose a higher-dimensional version of their schemes.
