    The paper establishes an Ambrosetti-Prodi-type result for the periodic boundary value problem of the damped beam equation \[ \begin{cases} u_{tt}+\delta\,u_t+u_{xxxx}-u+g(u)=\frac{1}{\pi}s\sin x+h(t,x), & \text{in }Q,\\ u(t,0)=u(t,\pi)=u_{xx}(t,0)=u_{xx}(t,\pi)=0, & t\in (0,2\pi),\\ u(0,x)=u(2\pi,x),\quad u_{t}(0,x)=u_{t}(2\pi,x)=0, & x\in (0,2\pi), \end{cases} \] where \(Q=(0,2\pi)\times(0,\pi)\), \(\delta\neq 0\) is a real constant, \(h\in L^2(Q)\) with \(\int_Q h(t,x)\sin x \,dx\,dt=0\), \(s\) is a real parameter and \(g\in C(\mathbb{R})\). Under certain conditions on \(g\), by the topological degree theory, the author proves that there exist constants \(s_0\leq s_1\) such that the problem has no solution if \(s< s_0\), at least one solution if \(s= s_1\), and at least two solutions if \(s= s_1\). This result is similar to that for damped wave equations [\textit{W. S. Kim}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 231, 34--46 (1999; Zbl 0930.35021)].
