The authors establish the blow up rate of large positive solutions of the semilinear elliptic problem \[ -\Delta u = \lambda u - b(x) u^p,\quad u| _{\partial\Omega} = 0 \] where \(\Omega\) is a ball and \(b\) is a radially symmetric function. In the previous results only the case where the decay rate of \(b\) can be approximated by the distance to \(\partial \Omega\) near to \(\partial \Omega\) is considered. The general case investigated here requires a more subtle analysis.
