In the framework of a general approach defined as ``geometry of matrices'' [cf. \textit{L.-K. Hua}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 57, 482--490 (1945; Zbl 0063.02922); Acad. Sinica Sci. Record 1, 263--267 (1945; Zbl 0063.02923); Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 61, 193--228 (1947; Zbl 0037.00701); ibid. 61, 229--255 (1947; Zbl 0037.39205); Ann. Math. (2) 50, 8--31 (1949; Zbl 0034.15701)], the geometry of the set \(T_{(k,n)}\) of \(k \times k(k\leq 2)\) block triangular matrices [cf. \textit{W. L. Chooi} and \textit{M. H. Lim}, Linear Algebra Appl. 346, No. 1--3, 199--238 (2002; Zbl 0998.15018); J. Nat. Sci. Heilongjiang Univ. 21, No. 4, 46--49 (2004; Zbl 1081.15504)] over a division ring \(D\) \((D \neq F_2=[0,1]\)-finite field of two elements) is considered. In the beginning, the bijective map \(\varphi\) from \(T_{(k,n)}\) to itself, preserving the adjacency for both \(\varphi\) and \(\varphi^{-1}\) is studied. The fundamental theorem of the geometry on \(T_{(k,n)}\) which is to characterize the group of motions of \(T_{(k,n)}\) by a few geometrical invariants of the space \(T_{(k,n)}\) is proved. Hereby the method of maximal sets of rank one and affine geometry are used. The weakly block additive adjacency preserving bijective maps on \(T_{(k,n)}\) are described. The fundamental theorem is applied to characterize a ring of automorphisms and ring of anti-automorphisms as well as a Jordan automorphisms of the Jordan ring \(J(T_{(k,n)})\).
