In 2001, Shadrin confirmed de Boor's conjecture that the max-norm of the orthogonal spline projector is bounded independently of the underlying knot sequence. The norm lies between \(k-1\) and \(2k-1\) if \(k\) is the polynomial degree. Here splines with multiplicities \(k-1\) and \(k-2\) are treated, i.e. the spline functions are \(C^0\) or \(C^1\), and a \(\sqrt{k}\) law is established. The main tool is a consideration of certain incomplete polynomials. There is the author's conjecture that the norm behaves as \(k/\sqrt{k-m}\) in the general case of \(C^m\) splines.
