Let \(M\) denote the largest sporadic simple group discovered by B. Fischer. The known maximal subgroups of \(M\) are divided into four families by the authors, (i) almost simple groups; (ii) subdirect products and subwreath products; (iii) easy local subgroups; and (iv) hard local subgroups. Then they find matrix representations for these maximal subgroups except those which are \(2\)-local. As the authors indicate in the paper some of these results are not new and can be found elsewhere.
