The author solves the proper reparametrization problem for the case of improperly parametrized curves and surfaces by means of rational reparametrizations. In the paper, a new method to compute a proper parametrization of the curve from the improper one is presented. This new method improves and modifies some previous methods. The proper parametrization is obtained from the coefficients of a univariate gcd (greatest common divisor) and by computing a univariate resultant. An example and a comparison of the results obtained by suggested method with the results obtained by previously known algorithms is presented, too. The new approach to solve the problem of proper reparametrization of surfaces defined over algebraically closed fields for some special parametrizations is developed. This new approach is based on computing two univariate resultants of certain curves directly constructed from the given parametrization.
