Let \(M\) be a \((2n+k)\)-dimensional CR manifold of type \((n,k)\). \(M\) is said to have property \(E\) (\(E\) is from extension) iff there exists an \(E\)-pair \((M,X)\), i.e. i) \(M\) is a generic CR-submanifold of the complex manifold \(X\), and ii) for each \(a\in M\), the restriction map induces an isomorphism \(\mathcal{O}_{X,a}\to \mathcal{CR}_{M,a}\) (\(\mathcal{CR}_{M, a}\) being the local ring of germs of CR functions at \(a\in M\)). If \(M\) is a pseudoconcave CR manifold, then \(M\) has the property \(E\). In the present paper, the authors study algebraic dependence, transcendence degree and related matters for the field \(\mathcal{K}(M)\) of CR meromorphic functions on a CR manifold \(M\) having the property \(E\). They obtain an analogue of the Chow theorem for compact \(CR\) manifolds. In the situation where \(M\) has a projective embedding, the ring \(\mathcal{K}(M)\) can be identified with the ring \(\mathcal{R}(Y)\) of the rational functions on an irreducible algebraic variety, in which \(M\) has a generic CR embedding that avoids the singularities of \(Y\). The possibility that \(M\) has a projective embedding is equivalent to the existence of a complex CR line bundle over \(M\) having certain properties.
