The authors consider a general class of so called Volterra functional differential equations with initial conditions of the following form \[ y'(t)=f(t,y(t),y),\;\;t\in[a,b];\;\;y(t)=\phi(t),\;\;t\in[a-\tau,a]. \] It is assumed that (under additional conditions) the function \(f:[a,b]\times D\times C_D(a-\tau,b)\rightarrow X\) satisfies the inequality \[ [1-\alpha(t)(\lambda-\lambda^*)]G_f(\lambda^*,t,u,v,\psi)\leq G_f(\lambda,t,u,v,\psi) \] where \(G_f(\lambda,t,u,v,\psi)=\| u-v-\lambda[f(t,u,\psi)-f(t,v,\psi)]\| \). Here \(X\) is a Banach space, \(D\subset X\), and by \(C_D(I)\) is denoted the B-space of continuous functions \(x:I\rightarrow D\) on the closed bounded interval \(I\), dotted with the supremum norm. Let \[ z'(t)=f(t,z(t),z),\;\;z(t)=\Phi(t),\;\;t\in[a-\tau,a] \] be a perturbed problem. The following bound of the perturbation of the solution is established \[ \begin{multlined} \| y(t_2)-z(t_2)\| \leq\exp \biggl(\int_{t_1}^{t_2} {\alpha(s)\over{1+\alpha(s)\lambda^*}} \,ds\biggr)\| y(t_1)-z(t_1)\| +\\ +\int_{t_1}^{t_2}\beta(r)\exp \biggl(\int_r^{t_2} {\alpha(s)\over{1+\alpha(s)\lambda^*}} \,ds\biggr)\,dr \max\| y(r)-z(r)\| \end{multlined} \] where \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) are nonnegative functions, while \(\max\) is taken over a certain interval, all details are defined in text of the paper. The logarithmic norm of a \(N\times N\) matrix \(A\) is defined as \[ \mu(A)=\lim_{s\rightarrow+0}{{\| I+sA\| -1}\over s}. \] When \(X\) is an \(N\)-dimensional space, under the assumption that \[ \mu \biggl({{\partial f(t,y,\psi)}\over{\partial y}} \biggr)\leq\nu(t)\quad \text{in } [a,b] \] a similar bound of the perturbation of solution depending on \(\nu\) is established. The paper contains two examples of application (one of them is a one dimensional parabolic problem).
