In this article, the authors give various results concerning zeros and algebraic independence of values of weakly holomorphic modular forms with respect to a modular group \(\Gamma\). Let \(f(z)=\sum_{n\geq n_o}a(n)e^{2\pi inz}~(a(n_0)\neq 0)\) be a weakly holomorphic modular form of even weight \(k\) for \(\Gamma=\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)\) with algebraic Fourier coefficients. The authors show that if \(a(n_0)\) is integral and \(a(n)\) is not integral for some \(n\), then \(f\) has at least one transcendental zero in the canonical fundamental domain \(\mathfrak F_\Gamma\) of \(\Gamma\) and that any zero of \(f\) is either CM or transcendental. These results are deduced from the fact that \(f^{12}/\Delta^k(z)\) is a polynomial of the modular invariant function \(j(z)\), by using \textit{T. Schneider}'s result about the algebraic values of \(j(z)\) [Math. Ann. 113, 1--13 (1936; Zbl 0014.20402; JFM 62.0186.02)]. Here \(\Delta (z)\) is the modular discriminant function. Further for a weakly horomorphic modular form for \(\Gamma=\Gamma_0(p)\) of prime level \(p\) with rational Fourier coefficients, assuming the location of zeros of the function in \(\mathfrak F_\Gamma\), they determine all possible CM zeros. Also they determine all possible CM zeros of the Eisenstein series for the Fricke groups \(\Gamma^*_0(p)=\langle\Gamma_0(p),W_p\rangle\), where \(p=2,3\) and \(W_p\) is the Fricke involution.
