Let \(\mathcal H\) be a Hilbert space and \(A\) be a bounded linear operator on \(\mathcal H\). If there exists a bounded linear operator \(T\) on \(\mathcal H\) such that \(ATA=A\), \(TAT=T\), \((AT)^*=AT\) and \((TA)^*=TA\), then such a \(T\) is called the Moore-Penrose inverse of \(A\). This generalized inverse is unique if it exists and is denoted by \(A^{\dagger}\). It is well known that \(A^{\dagger}\) exists if and only if the range space of \(A\) is closed. The authors study perturbations \(\tilde{A}\) for the Moore-Penrose inverse of a closed linear operator \(A\) on \(\mathcal H\). Expressions for the Moore-Penrose inverse of the perturbed operator \({\tilde{A}}^{\dagger}\) and upper bounds for \(\parallel {\tilde{A}}^{\dagger}\parallel\) and \(\parallel {\tilde{A}}^{\dagger}-A^{\dagger}\parallel\) are obtained. An application to least squares solutions of an operator equation is considered.
