This paper studies the growth as \(r\nearrow 1^-\) of the integral means \[ M_p(f,r)=\int_{\partial B_d} |f(r\zeta)|^p d\sigma_d(\zeta),\qquad 0<p<\infty , \] \[ M_\infty(f,r)=\sup_{\zeta\in \partial B_d} |f(r\zeta)| , \] for \(f\) belonging to a particular class of holomorphic functions in the unit ball \(B_d\) of \(\mathbb C^d\). Here \(\sigma_d\) denote the normalised Lebesgue measure in the unit sphere \(\partial B_b\). Given \(p,q\in (0,+\infty]\) and a gauge funtion \(\omega:(0,1]\longrightarrow (0,+\infty)\) consider the associated Hardy-Bloch space \(\mathcal B^\omega(p,q)\), consisting of the holomorphic functions such that \[ \|f\|_{\mathcal B^\omega(p,q)}=|f(0)|+\int_0^1 M_p^q(\mathcal Rf,r) (1-r)^{q-1}\frac {dr}{\omega^q(1-r)}<+\infty , \] \[ \|f\|_{\mathcal B^\omega(p,\infty)}=|f(0)|+\sup_{0<r<1} M_p(\mathcal Rf,r) \frac{1-r}{\omega(1-r)}<+\infty. \] Here \(\mathcal Rf=\sum_{j=1}^d z_j \frac{\partial f}{\partial z_j}\) denotes the radial derivative When \(\omega\) increases (or decreases) moderately the space \(\mathcal B^\omega(p,q)\) is close to the Hardy space, so it is natural to ask what is the growth of \(M_p(f,r)\) for functions in this space. The case \(\omega=1\) was studied in [\textit{D. Girela} et al., J. Anal. Math. 100, 53--81 (2006; Zbl 1173.30320)]. The paper under review provides sharp estimates on \(M(f,r)\) for \(f\in B^\omega(p,q)\) when \(2<p,q<\infty\). The results, which complement the work by the same author for the case \(p=\infty\) [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 412, No. 1, 269--276 (2014; Zbl 1308.42022)], are expressed in terms of the function \[ \Phi_{\omega,q}(x)=1+\int_x^1 \omega^{\frac{2q}{q-2}}(t) \frac{dt}t,\qquad 0<x<1. \] The main result is as follows. Theorem 1.2. Let \(2<p,q\leq\infty\) and let \(f\in \mathcal B^\omega(p,q)\). Then \[ M_p^2(f,r)\leq C_p \bigl(\Phi_{\omega,q} (1-r)\bigr)^{1-2/q} \|f\|_{\mathcal B^\omega(p,q)}^2 \] for all \(0<r<1\). An analogue for harmonic Hardy-Bloch spaces is also proved. The fact that Theorem 1.2 is sharp is deduced from a careful study of the gauge functions \[ \omega_\alpha(t)=\bigl(\log(\frac 2t)\bigr)^\alpha,\quad \alpha\in\mathbb R . \]
