The paper under review studies the higher representation theory of Lie algebras on categories. The main result asserts that under certain extra conditions, given a strong \(2\)-representation of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra, it can be extended to a \(2\)-representation of categorical quantum groups. As an application, the authors deduce the existence of a \(2\)-representation of the \(2\)-category \(\mathbf{U}_Q(\mathfrak{g})\) on certain derived categories of coherent sheaves, which resolves a conjecture raised by \textit{M. Khovanov} and \textit{A. D. Lauda} [Quantum Topol. 1, No. 1, 1--92 (2010; Zbl 1206.17015)].
