Iso Schoenberg has formulated and solved very many important problems with respect to spline interpolation (and of course in many other subjects as well). This article celebrates his particular contribution to convergence questions with respect to polynomial splines, that is the convergence of natural spline interpolants to continuous functions. The authors review his and other mathematicians' contributions to this result and its various improvements.
