The authors deal with the initial boundary value problem \[ \begin{aligned} &u_{tt}+\Delta^2u-\Delta_p u-\Delta u_t+f(u)+\nu \Delta \theta = h \text{ in }\Omega\times \mathbb R^+,\\ &\theta-\omega \Delta \theta-(1-\omega)\int_0^\infty k(s)\Delta \theta(t-s)\,ds-\nu \Delta u_t=0\text{ in }\Omega\times \mathbb R^+,\\ &u=\Delta u=0\text{ on }\partial\Omega\times \mathbb R^+,\;\theta=0\text{ on }\partial\Omega\times \mathbb R^+,\\& u(x,0)=u_0(x),\;u_t(x,0)=u_1(x);\;\theta(x,t)|_{t\leq 0}=\theta_0(x,t),\;x\in \Omega \end{aligned} \] modeling in the case \(\Omega\subset \mathbb R^2\) the dynamic behaviour of thermoelastic plates. Both the cases of Fourier and non-Fourier laws due to values of \(\omega\) are involved. The problem is solved after introducing a new variable \(\eta=\int_0^s \theta(t-\tau)\,d\tau\). A well-posedness of the problem is verified. The solution operator defines a nonlinear \(C_0\)-semigroup and hence the problem can be considered as a nonlinear dynamical system. The existence of a compact global attractor is the main result of the paper.
