Multiplier ideals have found many applications in algebraic geometry and related areas over the last decade, due to the fact that they satisfy vanishing theorems. Keeping their importance, there has been some interest in understanding what properties they have. It is easy to see that a multiplier ideal is integrally closed. Besides from being integrally closed, \textit{R. Lazarsfeld} and the reviewer [Invent. Math. 167, No. 2, 409--418 (2007; Zbl 1114.13013)] showed that multiplier ideals satisfy some syzygetic properties of algebraic nature. In the paper under review, the author studies the depths of multiplier ideals and their behavior under restriction to general hypersurfaces passing through fixed points. In his previous paper [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 361, No. 5, 2665--2677 (2009; Zbl 1173.14007)], he defined the length of constancy of an ideal \(\mathfrak{a}\) with weighting coefficient \(\lambda\) at a point on a smooth variety, which is an interesting numerical invariant that reflects the singularity of \(\mathfrak{a}^\lambda\) at the point. In another previous paper [J. Algebra 315, No. 2, 629--639 (2007; Zbl 1135.13006)], he proved that if the length of constancy is positive, then both the length of constancy and the depth of the associated multiplier ideal decrease by 1 when restricted to a general hypersurface passing through the given point. The paper under review deals with the case when the length of constancy is zero. In this case, after restriction, the length of constancy is still zero and the depth of the associated multiplier ideal is equal to 1. Some application on the filtration of multiplier ideals of the product of \(\mathfrak{a}^\lambda\) and powers of the maximal ideal is also explored.
