For an infinite-dimensional Banach space \(X\), the modulus of asymptotic pointwise convexity is defined for \(\|x\|=1\) and \(t>0\) as \(\bar\delta_X(t;x)=\sup_{\dim(X/H)<\infty} \inf_{h\in H,\|h\|\geq t}\|x+h\|-1\), while the modulus of asymptotic pointwise smoothness is defined for \(\|x\|=1\) and \(t>0\) as \(\bar\rho_X(t;x)=\inf_{\dim (X/H)<\infty}\sup_{h\in H,\|h\|\leq t}\|x+h\|-1\). The moduli of uniform convexity and uniform smoothness are defined, respectively, as \(\bar\delta_X(t)=\inf_{\|x\| =1}\bar\delta_X(t;x)\) and \(\bar\rho_X(t)=\sup_{\|x\|=1}\bar\rho_X(t;x)\). If there is \(C>0\) so that \(\bar\delta_X(t)\geq Ct^p\) (resp., \(\bar\rho(t)\leq Ct^p\)) for all \(0<t\leq 1\), then \(X\) is said to have modulus of asymptotic uniform convexity (resp., smoothness) of power type \(p\). An infinite-dimensional Banach space is said to have upper (resp., lower) (\(m_p\))-property with constant \(C\) if for \(x\in X\) and \((h_n)\to 0\) weakly \(\limsup_{n\to\infty}\|x+h_n\|^p\leq \|x\|^p+C\limsup_{n\to\infty}\|h_n\|^p\) (resp., \(\limsup_{n\to\infty}\|x+h_n\|^p\geq \|x\|^p+C\limsup_{n\to\infty}\|h_n\|^p\)). The authors prove that, for infinite-dimensional Banach spaces \(X\) with separable duals, \(X\) has modulus of asymptotic uniform convexity (resp., smoothness) of power type \(p\) if and only if it has the lower (resp., upper) (\(m_p\))-property. The upper and lower (\(m_p\))-properties are also related to \(S_p\) and \(T_p\) properties of upper and lower \(p\)-estimates. Concerning multilinear mappings, the authors prove that if \(X_1,\dots,X_n,Y\) are infinite-dimensional Banach spaces such that (i) \(\bar\rho_{X_i}\) is of power type \(p_i\); (ii) there is \(0<t<1\) such that \(\bar\delta_Y(t)>(1+t^p)^{1/p}-1\); (iii) \({1\over p_1}+1+\dots +{1\over p_n}={1\over p}<1\); then every continuous \(n\)-linear mapping from \(X_1\times\cdots\times X_n\to Y\) is weakly sequentially continuous. When \(\bar\rho_X(t_o;x)=0\) for some \(0<t_o\leq t_x\) and all \(x\) with \(\|x\|=1\), then \(X\) is said to be asymptotically flat. The authors relate asymptotically flat analytic renormings, \(c_0\)-saturation and polyhedral renormings on Orlicz spaces.
