Let \(M\) be a surface equipped with a Riemannian metric \(g=(g_{ij})\). The geodesic flow of the metric \(g\) is the Hamiltonian system on the cotangent bundle \(T^*M\) with the Hamiltonian \(H:=\tfrac{1}{2}g^{ij}p_ip_j\), where \((x^1, x^2,p_1,p_2)\) is a local coordinate system on \(T^*M\). A function \(F:T^*M\to \mathbb{R}\) is an integral of the geodesic flow of \(g\) if \( \{F, H\}=0\), where \(\{ \;, \;\}\) is the canonical Poisson bracket on \(T^*M\). A celebrated theorem of Koenigs describes all two-dimensional metrics admitting one linear and two quadratic integrals. In [J. Geom. Phys. 61, No. 8, 1353--1377 (2011; Zbl 1218.53087)] \textit{V. S. Matveev} and \textit{V. V. Shevchishin} gave a description of the metrics on surfaces whose geodesic flows are superintegrable (SI) with one linear integral and one cubic integral. In this paper the author presents a new derivation of the local structure of Koenigs metrics using a framework laid down by Matveev and Shevchishin. All these dynamical systems allow a potential preserving their superintegrability, and most of them are shown to be globally defined on either \(\mathbb{R}^2\) or \(\mathbb{H}^2\). Their geodesic flows are easily determined thanks to their quadratic integrals. Using Carter (or minimal) quantization, the author shows that the formal SI is preserved at the quantum level and for two metrics, for which all geodesics are closed, it is even possible to compute the classical action variables and the point spectrum of the quantum Hamiltonian.
