Some applications of the trace formula for modular correspondences (English)
In this note the author gives explicit formulas for the multiplicities of irreducible representations of the groups \(\Gamma/\Gamma(N)\) in the representation obtained from the working of \(\Gamma\) either on the space of cusp forms or on the space of differentials of degree \(h\), constructed for the group \(\Gamma(N)\). In the case \(h=1\) and \(N\) is an odd prime, these multiplicities can be derived from the explicit results concerning the representation. These multiplicities can be derived from a general trace formula, too. In this note the author uses this method and he can deal with the case of general \(h\geq 1\), furthermore the calculations are less complicated. In these numbers the class numbers of quadratic extensions of the rational field occur and in special cases one can deduce well-known relations for these class numbers. It is quite remarkable that the results in both cases are not formally the same. The author hopes that by comparison of these formulas one can obtain interesting arithmetical results
