Let \(k\) be a field of characteristic \(0\) and \(B\) the subgroup of \(\text{GL}(n,k)\) of upper triangular matrices. Let \(V=k^n\) be the natural \(\text{GL}(n,k)\)-module and \(V_1\subset V_2\subset\dots\subset V_n\) a flag. Then the symmetric power \(S_iV_j\) is a \(B\)-module. For each partition \(\lambda=(\lambda_1,\dots,\lambda_n)\in N^n\), write \(h_\lambda\) for the character of the \(B\)-module \(S_{\lambda_1}V_1\otimes\dots\otimes S_{\lambda_n}V_n\). Let \(k_\lambda\) be the one-dimensional \(B\)-module whose character is \(\text{ch }k_\lambda=x^{\lambda_1}_1x^{\lambda^2}_2\dots x^{\lambda_n}_n\). The main aim of this paper is to give a direct proof of the following Theorem: \(\text{ch }k_\lambda=\sum_{\sigma\in S_n}\text{sgn}(\sigma)h_{\sigma(\lambda)}\) where \(\sigma(\lambda)=(\lambda_1+\sigma(1)-1,\lambda_2+\sigma(2)-2,\dots,\lambda_n+\sigma(n)-n)\) (with convention \(h_{\sigma(\lambda)}=0\) if \(\sigma(\lambda)\not\in N^n\)). An equivalent result was proved by \textit{A. Kovačec} and \textit{A. P. Santana} [Linear Algebra Appl. 197-198, 79-91 (1994; Zbl 0790.05094)].
