Let \(\mathbb P^n\) be the \(n\)-dimensional projective space and \(X\) an arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) scheme of codimension three in \(\mathbb P^n\). The authors, motivated by their previous paper [Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser., 53, 401--406 (2004; Zbl 1099.13029)], use \(O\)-sequences for \(X\) (Hilbert functions of a quotient algebra of the coordinate ring of \(X\)) to determine the minimal number of generators for the defining ideal of any such ACM-scheme having the given \(O\)-sequence. Then, those results are applied to Gorenstein sequences and complete intersection \(O\)-sequences.
