The notion of permutable Hermitian varieties was introduced by \textit{B. Segre} in [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 70, 1-202 (1965; Zbl 0146.16703)]. In the paper under review, the authors investigate the intersection \({\mathcal R}\) of two permutable Hermitian surfaces of \(\text{ PG}(3,q^2)\), \(q\) odd. They show that \({\mathcal R}\) is a determinantal variety which comprises a complete \((q^2+1)\)-span of the two Hermitian surfaces. With a \(k\)-span of a Hermitian surface, the authors mean a set of \(k\) disjoint generators.
