Let \({\mathcal G} \subset \text{ PG}(9,2)\) denote the Grassmannian of lines of \(\text{PG}(4,2)\). Let \(S\) be a partial spread of \(\text{PG}(4,2)\) and let \(X\) denote the set of points of \({\mathcal G}\) corresponding with the lines of \(S\). Let \(\alpha(S)\) denote the flat of \(\text{PG}(9,2)\) generated by the points \(x_1 + x_2\), where \(x_1\) and \(x_2\) are two distinct elements of \(X\). Using the classification of partial spreads in \(\text{PG}(4,2)\), the authors determine those partial spreads \(S\) for which \(\alpha(S)\) is a flat external to \({\mathcal G}\).
