    The author studies the singularly perturbed Abel-Volterra equation \[ \varepsilon x(t) = g(t) + {1\over \Gamma(\alpha)} \int_0^t {a(t,s)\over (t-s)^{1-\alpha}}f(x(s),s)\, ds, \] where \(0 < \varepsilon \ll 1\), \(0< \alpha < 1\), \(0 \leq t\leq T\) and \(g\), \(a\) and \(f\) satisfy certain smoothness conditions, \(g(0)=0\), and \(a(t,t)=-1\). First a formal expansion of the form \(x(t;\varepsilon) \approx u_0(t)+ v_0(t\varepsilon ^{-\eta})\) where \(\eta = 1/\alpha\) is derived and then it is shown that \(| x(t;\epsilon) - u_0(t)- v_0(t\epsilon ^{-\eta}) | \leq c\epsilon\) for all \(t\in [0,T]\) when \(\epsilon \) is sufficiently small. Here \(u_0\) and \(v_0\) satisfy certain nonlinear Volterra equations with weakly singular kernels. The proofs use singular perturbation techniques and the Mellin transform.
