A Choquet simplex in a linear space is a convex subset \(S\) with the property that the intersection of any two homothetic copies of \(S\), if nonempty, is again a (possibly degenerate) homothetic copy of \(S\). A compact Choquet simplex in a finite-dimensional space is an ordinary simplex. This characterization can be strengthened by reducing the assumptions. Other classes of convex sets can be characterized in finite dimensions if either the assumption of compactness is deleted, or if the homothety assumption for the intersections is weakened. In the literature, this has been done in various ways, and the present paper gives a neat survey.
