The author investigates the long-time near-conservation of the total and oscillatory energies by numerical integrators for Hamiltonian systems with highly oscillatory solutions. Symmetric trigonometric integrators and the Störmer-Verlet method are considered. The authors extend previously obtained results for systems with a single high frequency to the multi-frequency case and obtain new results for the long-time behaviour of numerical solutions for resonant frequencies by using modulated multi-frequency Fourier expansions and the Hamiltonian-like structure of the modulation system. They also discuss the conservation properties of the continuous problem. The findings are illustrated with numerical results for a resonant system with 4 degrees of freedom.
