The authors consider vector-valued Sobolev, Besov, and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces of functions with values in a general Banach space; in general, these spaces may lack the UMD property. The authors prove a refined limiting embedding theorem of the Brézis-Wainger type in the critical case. The main result reads as follows: Theorem 3. Let \(1<p<\infty\) and \( 1<q \leq \infty\). Then there exists \(\varepsilon \in (0,1)\) such that \[ \left(\int_{0}^{\varepsilon}\left[{f^{*}(t)\over \log t}\right]^p {dt\over t}\right)^{1/q}\leq c\| f| B_{pq}^{N/p}(\mathbb {R}^N, E)\| \] holds for all \( f\in B_{pq}^{N/p}(\mathbb {R}^N, E).\) From this theorem and by using the Jawerth-Franke type embeddings, the embeddings for Sobolev spaces \(W_p^s({\mathbb R}^N, E)\) and Bessel potential spaces \(H_p^s({\mathbb R}^N, E)\) are obtained. In the last section, the sharpness of these embeddings is shown and the envelopes are found.
