The Selberg trace formula for a lattice in \(\text{PSL}_2(\mathbb{C})\) and \(\text{PSU}(2)\)-bi-invariant kernel is derived along classical lines. The result is then applied to give the meromorphic continuation of the Selberg zeta-function or at least a power thereof. The presence of torsion elements indeed renders the zeta-function itself non-meromorphic in general. An example of this phenomenon is the case of the lattice \(\Gamma= \text{PSL}_2(\mathbb{Z}[\varepsilon])\), where \(\varepsilon\) is a cube root of unity. Reviewer's remark: For decades there have been more general approaches around which yield better, in particular more general, results. The current paper draws a faint justification from the fact that these approaches are complex and hard to handle.
