The authors are interested in the structural stability of the dynamics of the populations of predators and their prey in a given ecosystem, which is described by the following family of planar vector fields \[ x^{\prime }=x(a-\lambda x)-yP(x), \quad y^{\prime }=-\delta y-\mu y^{2}+cyP(x). \] Here, \(x\) and \(y\) denote the density of the prey and predator populations, respectively, while \(P(x)\) is a nonmonotonic response function.
