A finite group \(G=AB\) is a totally permutable product of its subgroups \(A\) and \(B\) if every subgroup of \(A\) permutes with every subgroup of \(B\). If \(A\) and \(B\) are nilpotent, then the finite factorized group \(G=AB\) is soluble by a well-known theorem of Kegel and Wielandt. It is also known that the product of two cyclic subgroups is supersoluble. Here the authors show that a totally permutable product of two nilpotent subgroups is Abelian-by-nilpotent. This is then used to obtain information on totally permutable products with respect to formations in which every group is an extension of a group in a formation containing all Abelian groups, by a nilpotent group. Furthermore, the class of groups in which permutability is a transitive relation and some related group classes, are also considered.
