As is known, the weighted projective lines introduced by \textit{W. Geigle} and \textit{H. Lenzing} [Lect. Notes Math. 1273, 265--297 (1987; Zbl 0651.14006)] are very interesting to give a geometric characterization of canonical algebras studied by \textit{C. M. Ringel} [Tame algebras and integral quadratic forms. Lecture Notes in Mathematics. 1099. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag. (1984; Zbl 0546.16013)]. In the representation theory of algerbas, generic modules, Prüfer modules and adic modules play an important role in the categories of modules. \textit{H. Lenzing} [in: Advances in algebra and model theory. Selected surveys presented at conferences in Essen 1994 and Dresden 1995. Reading: Gordon and Breach Science Publishers. 375--385 (1997; Zbl 0957.16008)] gave generic sheaves over weighted projective lines of genus one and determined all indecomposable generic sheaves. In the paper under review, the authors introduced the concepts of Prüfer sheaves and adic sheaves over a weighted projective line of genus one or an elliptic curve and used these sheaves to characterize the categories of coherent sheaves. By the relationship between Prüfer sheaves and adic sheaves, the authors constructed generic sheaves.
