Let \(\Omega_n:=\{A\in\mathcal M_n: r(A)<1\}\) denote the spectral ball, where \(\mathcal M_n\) stands for the set of all \(n\times n\) complex matrices and \(r(A)\) is the spectral radius of \(A\). Let \(\mathbb G_n:=\{\pi(A): A\in\Omega_n\}\) be the symmetrized polydisc, where \(\pi=(\sigma_1,\dots,\sigma_n): \mathcal M_n\longrightarrow\mathbb G_n\) is defined via the formula \(\det(tI_n-A)=\sum_{j=0}^n(-1)^j\sigma_j(A)t^{n-j}\). Given a holomorphic mapping \(\varphi:\mathbb D\longrightarrow\mathbb G_n\), matrices \(A_1,\dots,A_N\in\Omega_n\), and points \(\alpha_1,\dots,\alpha_N\in\mathbb D\) with \(\varphi(\alpha_j)=\pi(A_j)\), for \(j=1,\dots,N\), the \textit{lifting problem} is to find conditions under which there exists a holomorphic mapping \(\Phi:\mathbb D\longrightarrow\Omega_n\) such that \(\varphi=\pi\circ\Phi\) and \(\Phi(\alpha_j)=A_j\), \(j=1,\dots,N\). The authors present an effective method for the lifting in the case where \(n\leq5\) (the method fails for \(n\geq6\)).
