The paper deals with the numerical solution of the the generalized Benjamin-, Bona-, Mahony- (BBM) equation in two space dimensions with Dirichlet boundary conditions. This equation describes a one-way propagation of nonlinear dispersive long waves. The problem is discretized by the finite difference scheme. The existence and uniqueness of the numerical solution are shown. The main attention is paid to the study of the long-time behavior, namely, it is proved that there exists a global attractor of the discrete dynamical system. Finally, the long-time stability and convergence of the difference scheme are derived. The results show that the difference scheme can effectively simulate the infinite-dimensional dynamical systems. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the theory is accurate and that the schemes are efficient and reliable.
