The authors introduce here a most general form of the blossom for degree \(n\) polynomials called the \(G\)-blossom to unify and generalize the theory of classical and quantum Bernstein bases and Bézier curves within a single common framework. Thus it is no longer necessary to develop a new kind of blossom for each new polynomial Bernstein-Bézier theory: the classical blossom, the \(q\)-blossom [the second author et al., J. Approx. Theory 164, No. 1, 77--104 (2012; Zbl 1242.65036)], the \(h\)-blossom [the second author et al., Comput. Aided Geom. Des. 28, No. 9, 549--565 (2011; Zbl 1246.65034)], and the \((q,h)\)-blossom [the authors, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 288, 284--303 (2015; Zbl 1320.65028)] are all just special cases of the \(G\)-blossom. Observing that this general approach to blossoming also hints at a more comprehensive theory of polynomial and non-polynomial splines, the authors plan to pursue this more comprehensive theory of splines in future papers.
