Using the fact that absolute zero divisors in Jordan pairs become Lie sandwiches of the corresponding Tits-Kantor-Koecher Lie algebras, the authors prove local nilpotency of the Mc-Crimmon radical of a Jordan system (algebra, triple system, or pair) over an arbitrary ring of scalars. As an application, they show that simple Jordan systems are always nondegenerate. An element \(a\) in a Lie algebra \(L\) is said to be a sandwich if \([a,[L,a]]=0=[a,[L,[L,a]]]\). As the authors prove, any absolute zero divisor of a Jordan pair \((V^+,V^-)\) (that is, \(x\in V^\sigma\) with \(Q_xV^{-\sigma}=0\)), becomes a Lie sandwich of the corresponding Tits-Kantor-Koecher Lie algebra. This, makes it possible to translate the problem into the Lie setting. The proof given in the paper under review is based on the Kostrikin-Zelmanov theorem on local nilpotency of Lie algebras generated by sandwiches (published in 1990 in a paper under the title ''A theorem on sandwich algebras''). The so called ''Lie sandwich theorem'' (proved in papers by \textit{A. D. Chanyshev} [Mosc. Univ. Math. Bull. 45, No. 5, 68--69 (1990); translation from Vestn. Mosk. Univ., Ser. I 1990, No. 5, 84--85 (1990; Zbl 0718.17005)], \textit{E. I. Zel'manov} and \textit{A. I. Kostrikin} [Proc. Steklov Inst. Math. 183, 121--126 (1991); translation from Tr. Mat. Inst. Steklova 183, 106--111 (1990; Zbl 0729.17006)] or Zelmanov (1992)) states that a Lie algebra generated by a finite set of sandwiches is nilpotent, hence a Lie algebra generated by a set of sandwiches is locally nilpotent. The main theorem in the paper under review, states that any Jordan pair or Jordan triple system generated by a finite collection of absolute zero divisors is nilpotent. Then, a number of consequences are stated in the paper: i) Any Jordan algebra generated by a finite collection of absolute zero divisors is nilpotent. ii) Any Jordan system (algebra, triple or pair) generated by a set of absolute zero divisors is locally nilpotent. iii) For any Jordan system, its McCrimmon radical is locally nilpotent. iv) Simple Jordan systems are nondegenerate.
