Given any spectrum, we may consider its Tate spectrum with respect to the trivial action of the group with two elements. It has been observed in a number of cases that the Tate spectrum blueshifts, i.e. transforms a spectrum of height \(n\) into a spectrum of height \(n-1\). In particular this has been shown before for \(ko\) and \(BP\langle 2\rangle\). The article under review adds another example to this list: The Tate spectrum of connective topological modular forms \(\mathrm{tmf}\) splits as \(\prod_{i\in\mathbb{Z}}\Sigma^{8i}ko\), demonstrating blueshift from height \(2\) to height \(1\). The method of proof is cohomological and uses more precisely a study of certain \(\mathcal{A}(2)\)-modules and the Adams spectral sequence.
