The Bloch-Beilinson conjecture [\textit{U. Jannsen}, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 55, 245--302 (1994; Zbl 0811.14004)] expects that for any smooth complex projective variety, there exists a decreasing filtration on the Chow group that satisfies certain nice properties. In the paper under review, the author considers a filtration \(G^{\bullet}\) on the Chow group of \(0\)-cycles on complex abelian varieties, which is defined in terms of intersections of divisor classes. If the filtration \(G^{\bullet}\) is the conjectural Bloch-Beilinson filtration, then the following conjecture is a consequence: Conjecture 1 Let \(X\) be a complex abelian variety of dimension \(d.\) Suppose that \(f: X\rightarrow X\) is an automorphism of \(X\) such that the induced morphism \(f_*: H^0(X, \Omega_X^d)\rightarrow H^0(X, \Omega_X^d)\) is the identity. Then \(f_*\) acts on the subgroup \(G^dCH_0(X)\) as the identity map. Let \(H^d(X)_{tr}\) be the transcendental cohomology group of \(H^d(X)\), and let \(H^d(X)_{tr}^{\perp}\) be the orthogonal complement. Denote by \(N^{\bullet}\) (resp. \(\tilde{N}^{\bullet}\)) the coniveau (resp. niveau) filtration on the cohomology, see [\textit{C. Vial}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 106, No. 2, 410--444 (2013; Zbl 1271.14010)]. There are natural inclusions \[ \tilde{N}^1H^d(X)\subset N^1H^d(X)\subset H^d(X)_{tr}^{\perp}.\tag{\(\ast\)} \] The author thus modify the assumption in the above conjecture as follows. Conjecture 2. Let \(X\) be a complex abelian variety of dimension \(d.\) Suppose that \(f: X\rightarrow X\) is an automorphism of \(X\) such that the induced morphism \(f_*: \frac{H^d(X)}{\tilde{N}^1H^d(X)}\rightarrow \frac{H^d(X)}{\tilde{N}^1H^d(X)}\) is the identity. Then \(f_*\) acts on \(G^dCH_0(X)\) as the identity map. It follows from the above inclusion \((*)\) that Conjecture 1 implies Conjecture 2. The converse is true if the generalized Hodge conjecture and the Lefschetz standard conjecture hold for all smooth projective varieties of dimension \(d-2\). The author verified Conjecture 2 for suitable complex abelian varieties. The proof relies on the Chow-Künneth decomposition of abelian varieties [\textit{C. Deninger} and \textit{J. Murre}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 422, 201--219 (1991; Zbl 0745.14003)], the symmetrically distinguished cycles due to \textit{P. O'Sullivan}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 654, 1--81 (2011; Zbl 1258.14006)], and Theorem 1.2 in the paper [\textit{C. Vial}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 106, No. 2, 410--444 (2013; Zbl 1271.14010)]. In addition, the author discuss the action of automotphisms on the Chow group of zero-cycls on Kummer surfaces and the generalized Kummer varieties.
