Calabi-Yau manifolds are smooth projective manifolds with vanishing first Chern classes. They are interesting geometric spaces not only because of their importance in the classification of algebraic varieties but also their fundamental role in supersymmetric string theory. Classification problems for Calabi-Yau manifolds of dimensions greater than two are difficult and important. Complete intersections in toric Fano manifolds provide a huge number of examples of Calabi-Yau manifolds. In the paper under review, the authors construct and classify complete intersection Calabi-Yau 3-folds in Grassmannians with respect to a direct sum of globally generated irreducible homogeneous vector bundles. Hodge numbers and certain topological invariants are also computed for those examples.
