Considered is the Cauchy problem with small initial data for a semilinear wave equation with variable coefficients and time dependent scattering damping, $u_{tt}-{\Delta}_gu+a(t){u_t}= |u|^p$, for $x\in\mathbb{R}^n$ and $t>0$, $u(0,x)=\epsilon u_o$, ${u_t}(0,x) =\epsilon u_1$, for $x\in\mathbb{R}^n$, where $n\geq 2$. Denote $p_o(n)$ the Strauss number. Results on blow-up and lifespan estimates in case $1<p<p_o(n)$ have been obtained in a previous paper from \textit{N.-A. Lai} and \textit{H. Takamura} [ibid. 168, 222--237 (2018; Zbl 1395.35045)]. The purpose here is to consider the case $p=p_o(n)$. Under some assumptions on initial data and on coefficient $a(t)$, a blow-up result and lifespan estimates are proved.
