Let \(\Delta\) be the Laplacean on the \(n\)-dimensional Eucledian space \(\mathbb{R}^n\) and let \(A_t(f), t>0,\) be the average on a sphere of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with radius \(t\) of \(f\in L^1(\mathbb{R}^n) )\). The article of \textit{E. Belinsky} et al. [J. Approx. Theory 125, No. 1, 85--105 (2003; Zbl 1050.41014)] poses the following problem: find the smollest integer \(N\) to ensure the inequality \[||\Delta(A_t)^N(f)||_{||L^1(\mathbb{R}^n)||}\preceq t^{-2}||f||_{L^1(\mathbb{R}^n)}\ t>0 .\] It is proved that if \(n\neq 3\) and \(\neq 5\), this estimate is valid iff \(N>(n+3)/(n-1)\). The cases \(n=3\) and \(n=5\) are considered separately.
