This paper deals with the following nonlinear parabolic systems initial-boundary value problem: \[ \begin{cases} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = \Delta u + v^p,\qquad&\text{in }\Omega\times(0, \infty),\\ \displaystyle \frac{\partial v}{\partial t} = \Delta v + u^q,\qquad&\text{in }\Omega\times(0, \infty),\\ \displaystyle u = v = 0,\qquad&\text{on }\partial\Omega\times(0, \infty),\\ \displaystyle (u(x, 0), v(x, 0)) = (u_0(x), v_0(x))\qquad&\text{in }\Omega, \end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(\Omega\) is a smooth domain in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N \geq 1\), (not necessary bounded), \(p, \, q \geq 0\), and \(u_0\), \(v_0\) are nonnegative and locally integrable functions in \(\Omega\). This problem is used to describe heat propagation in two components combustible mixture. The authors construct supersolutions for a class nonlinear parabolic systems including (1). These supersolutions allow them to obtain sufficient conditions for the local existence (in time) of solutions. Furthermore, they obtain lower estimates on the blow up for solutions of (1). Finally, the authors also obtain sufficient conditions for the local existence for some more generalizations of (1).
