The concept of an injective \(T_0\)-space was studied and characterized by Dana Scott in 1970 as a topological \(T_0\)-space which is a continuous lattice with regard to its specialization order [\textit{D. Scott}, Lect. Notes Math. 274, 97--136 (1972; Zbl 0239.54006)]. The corresponding fibrewise problem consists in furnishing a characterization of the continuous maps which are injective, and it has proved to be a difficult task. Questions of this sort are analyzed in the present paper, where the authors study several items related to injectivity for continuous maps between \(T_0\)-spaces. The new characterizations obtained establish a parallelism between characterizations of injective monotone maps between ordered sets and of injective continuous maps between \(T_0\)-spaces.
