If \(G\) is a group and \(\varphi\in\Aut(G)\) with \(\varphi^n=1\), then \([G,\varphi]=\{g^{-1}g^\varphi\mid g\in G\}\) and \(\Sigma(G,\varphi)=\{g\in G\mid g\cdot g^\varphi\cdots g^{\varphi^{n-1}}=1\}\). If \(S\) is a subset of \(G\), then \(S\) is of finite index in \(G\) if \(S\) contains a subgroup of finite index in \(G\) and \(G\) is periodic modulo \(S\) if, for every \(g\in G\), there is \(k\in\mathbb N\) such that \(g^k\in S\). A FAR group is a solvable group with finite Hirsch number satisfying the minimal condition for \(q\)-subgroups for every prime \(q\). The main results in the paper under review are: Theorem 1 (Theorem 2) Let \(G\) be a finite extension of a solvable FAR group and \(\varphi\in\Aut(G)\) with \(\varphi^p=1\) for some prime \(p\). The following are equivalent: (a) \(C_G(\varphi)\) is finite (\(C_G(\varphi)\) is periodic); (b) the set \([G,\varphi]\) has finite index in \(G\) (\(G\) is periodic modulo \([G,\varphi]\)); (c) the set \(\Sigma(G,\varphi)\) has finite index in \(G\) (\(G\) is periodic modulo \(\Sigma(G,\varphi)\)).
