A unital subalgebra \({\mathcal A}\) of a unital Banach algebra \({\mathcal B}\) is said to be inverse closed if, for every \(A\in{\mathcal A}\) invertible in \({\mathcal B}\), one has \(A^{-1}\in{\mathcal A}\). In the paper under review, an algebra of singular integral operators that contains the Bessel potentials of positive order is introduced. It is shown that the corresponding unital Banach algebra is an inverse closed Banach subalgebra of the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on the weighted Lebesgue space \(L_w^q\) for all \(1\leq q<\infty\) and all Muckenhoupt weights \(w\in A_q\). As a corollary, it is shown that the spectrum of the Bessel potential \(J_\gamma\) on \(L_w^q\) coincides with the segment \([0,1]\) for all \(1\leq q<\infty\) and all Muckenhoupt weights \(w\in A_q\).
