Let \(G = \text{GL}(2,{\mathbb Q}_p)\) and let \(L\) be a quadratic extension of \({\mathbb Q}_p\) supplied with an embedding of \(L^{\times}\) into \(G\) defined by the choice of a basis of \({\mathcal O}_L\) over \({\mathbb Z}_p\). The subject of the paper is the restriction to \(L^{\times}\) of absolutely irreducible admissible \(p\)-modular representations \(\pi\) of \(G\). The explicit description of these representations, given by the author in [J. Algebra 339, No. 1, 252--303 (2011; Zbl 1239.22012)] and [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 365, No. 12, 6625--6667 (2013; Zbl 1280.22021)], is used to determine the structure of their restriction to \(L^{\times}\). The restriction to \({\mathcal O}_L^{\times}\) of certain representations of \(\text{GL}(2,{\mathbb Z}_p)\) induced from the Iwahori subgroup is studied first, which needs to consider representations of \(\text{GL}(2,{\mathbb F}_p)\). From the structure results one can deduce the value of the dimension of \(\text{Ext}^i(\pi\!\mid _{{\mathcal O}_L^{\times}},\chi\!\mid_{{\mathcal O}_L^{\times}})\), where \(\chi\) is a character of \(L^{\times}\) extending the central character of \(\pi\). Let \(e\) denote the ramification index of \(L/{\mathbb Q}_p\). Assume \(p\neq 2\). We have: \(\text{Ext}^i = 0\) for \(i = 0\) and for \(i > 2\), \(\text{Ext}^1\) and \(\text{Ext}^2\) have dimension \(e\) if \(\pi\) is principal or special, they have dimension \(2e\) if \(\pi\) is supersingular. Hence, for all these representations one has \(\text{Hom}_{L^{\times}}(\pi\!\mid _{L^{\times}}, \chi) = 0\), in contrast with the situation for complex representations of \(\text{GL}(2, {\mathbb Q}_p)\).
