The monodromy fields [\textit{J. Palmer}, Commun. Math. Phys. 102, 175-206 (1985; Zbl 0614.35079)] on the twodimensional lattice are considered. A criterion is given for the existence of the critical limit one point correlation of the monodromy field \(\sigma_ a(M)\) for matrices \(M\in GL(p,{\mathbb{C}})\) with non-negative eigenvalues. It reads: Let \(M\in GL(p,{\mathbb{C}})\) have the eigenvalues \(\lambda_ 1,...,\lambda_ p\), \(\lambda_ i\in {\mathbb{C}}\setminus (-\infty,0]\), \(i=1,...,p\) and let \(I=\sum^{p}_{i=1}(\ln \lambda_ i)^ 2\). Then the critical limit of \(<\sigma_ a(M)>\) equals \(\infty\), 0 or 1 if Re I\(>0\), Re I\(<0\) or \(I=0\), respectively. If Re I\(=0\), Im \(I\neq 0\), then this limit does not exist. The matrices obeying the condition \(I=0\) are partially characterized. Finally, a conjecture concerning the N-point correlations is presented.
