    Let \((S,+)\) be a discrete, not necessarily commutative semigroup and let \(\beta\) S denote the Stone-Čech compactification of S with the left continuous extension of \(+\). For a sequence \((x_ n)_{n\in N}\) in S and a finite increasing subset \(F=\{n_ 1,...,n_ t\}\) of N, define \(\sum_{n\in F}x_ n=x_{n_ t}+...+x_{n_ 2}+x_{n_ 1}\), and \(FS(x_ n)=\{\sum_{n\in F}x_ n:\) F is a finite nonempty increasing subset of \(N\}\). Suppose \((x_ n)\) is a sequence in S such that expressions in \(FS(x_ n)\) are unique, i.e., if \(\sum_{n\in F}x_ n=\sum_{n\in G}x_ n\) then \(F=G\). Let p be an element of closure \(\{\) \(x_ n:\) \(n\in N\}\setminus S\) and let \(P=closure \{p,p+p,p+p+p,...\}\). An elegant proof is given that such P cannot be closed under \(+\).
